These two MPs, Su'a William Sio and Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, should be dumped from parliament - literally kicked out the door on their butts with their overstuffed suitcases thrown out after them, donking them on the head, y'know? Cartoon styles.
Not just because they're so against the marriage equality bill (honestly, get a life), but because they're actually attending churchy protests against it, supporting and representing religious nutjobs who are holding up signs like
ALL MPs SUPPORT GAY/LESBI'S LAW ARE MANTALLY SICK MPs
and
MARRiAGE ONLY 4 HUMANE BEING / LESBI/GAY COPY ANIMALS NATURE!!!
Their job as MPs is not to represent the poisonous, harmful, bible-based views of uneducated, very ignorant, church-stuffing extremist christians.
Yes, they represent their community, to an extent.
But it's an overall-type thing, guys! You don't have to select the craziest, dull-headed laggarts and hold hands with them! I mean in a friends kind of way, of course!
MPs are also meant to be role models. I actually felt sick reading the article about their attendance at the protest.
People in their communities look up to them - and the Pacific communities currently have a low rate of inclusion in university, and a high rate of religious belief (education and the church are loooongtime frenemies), so you, William Sio, with your university degrees, you should know better.
Shame on these two for their bigotry. Yes, shame on the people at the protest in general, but ignorance is not an excuse these two educated men can claim.
